All my life I have hiked, backpacked, and climbed in natural areas, marveling at the beauty of the oceans, mountains, flowers, landscapes, and the wildlife.  Africa is different;  somehow larger than life.  Perhaps it is the expanse of the regions or the size of the animals, which are some of the most dangerous on earth, especially the  "big five" game animals: the lion, leopard, Cape buffalo, rhinoceros, and African elephant. I strive to record accurately the flowers and animals in their natural environment.  At the same time, my photographs tell a story: What are the animals doing?  Why are they acting as they do?  In some cases, I leave it to the viewer to develop the story and in others it is in a sequence of photographs.  In my photos of African animal mothers and their babies, the mothers are not only protective but also tolerant, patient, and above all loving.  As large, powerful, and beautiful as they are, these animals still need protection.  I hope that my photographs will, in some small way, help protect them.
